Lower quality = smaller file. 75–85% is the sweet spot for most photos. Note: converting a transparent image to JPG removes transparency (the background becomes white).

How to compress an image

  1. Add one or more images using the box above (drag and drop works too).
  2. Pick a quality level and output format.
  3. Press Compress images, compare the before/after sizes and previews, then download each result.

Will compression make my image look worse?

At moderate settings (75–85%), most people can't see a difference, while the file often shrinks 60–90%. Very low quality settings will visibly soften details — the preview lets you check before downloading.

Can a compressed file end up larger than the original?

Yes, occasionally — for example, saving an already-optimized JPG as PNG. When that happens, this tool tells you honestly and shows the real sizes so you can pick a different format.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression runs locally in your browser with the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which format gives the smallest file?

For photos, WebP usually wins, followed by JPG. PNG is lossless, so it stays larger — it's best for logos, icons, and screenshots that need transparency.
